Cain And Abel’s Offering

Introduction

“Abel brought the best parts of his best sheep. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift. But God did not accept Cain and his gift. Cain became very angry and looked unhappy.” Genesis 4:4-5

After Adam and Eve had disobeyed by eating the forbidden fruit, they were driven from the Garden of Eden for always. The Tree of Life was guarded by Angels.

But one day something good happened to them. They had a little baby boy and named him Cain. This was the first baby, but later they had another boy child. They named him Abel.

As these boys grew up they were interested in different things. Cain was a farmer who liked to watch and see things growing. Abel liked to be a shepherd and look after this father’s sheep.

In this age people did not worship by going to church. They brought something that they had for the Lord and burned it on rocks they called the altar.

One day they brought their sacrifice to the Lord. Cain brought some fruit and vegetables from his garden, and Abel brought the finest sheep from his flocks. God was not pleased with Cain’s offering, but He was pleased with Abel.

God told Cain He would give him another chance. Cain was so angry he did not try to do right or please God. He began to hate Abel. One day while they were in the field, Cain killed Abel.

God knew what had happened, but just to test Cain He questioned Cain asking where was his brother. He tried to cover up by saying,

“Am I my brother’s keeper?”

God told him he knew of the killing. He was going to punish him by sending him away from home. He told him He would put a certain mark on him so that as he wandered around, no one would harm him.

Just as he loved Cain, He loves us even when we do wrong.
