They Have Taken My Lord’s Words Away, Part 2

Introduction

‘As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ Ephesians 2:1-10

Christ did not mince words when He says that His words are full of the Spirit and life, John 6:63. Unfortunately, people who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord are dead spiritually.

According to the apostle Paul, this was the state of the Christians in Ephesians before they believed the gospel, and this was the case with us too before we embraced Christ and His life-giving words, Ephesians 2:1-10.

The psalmist truly says: ‘Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.’ Psalm 119:105. Again, the evil deeds we see and hear about in today’s societies are comparable with darkness simply because people have taken God’s words away from their lives.

If God’s words are light, and the light is taken away, then what you have is darkness! God’s words have been taken away from secular institutions and the result? school shootings, shopping mall shootings, and several other vices. What a dark place the world is, without God’s words!

Christ further says that God’s words constitute the truth which God uses to sanctify us, John 17:17. Lies and hypocrisy abound in the world of today because people have taken away God’s words from their lives by disrespecting God and His words.

The only truth about man’s destiny and God’s offer of salvation to save fallen man can only be found in Christ (who is the truth – John 14:6) and in His words.
