Introduction

‘Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.’ Psalm 1:1

Whilst debating the validity of the resurrection, Paul sternly rebuked the Christians in Corinth for their ignorance and warned them that bad company ruins good morals as this was most likely to be one of the reasons for their recklessness, 1 Corinthians 15:33.

It is very true that the company we keep have the potentials of influencing us either positively or negatively.

The first chapter of the book of Psalms instructs us about the way to achieve true happiness (or blessedness) in life. The first verse identifies three positions that can determine whether or not one is happy or blessed.

The prophet Malachi says that those who feared the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord paid attention and heard them and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who feared Him and esteemed His name.

It is hugely helpful to keep company with God’s people as this motivates us to righteous living, good works and diligence in serving the Lord since it enhances our consistent focus on Christ, as we set our affection on things above. Ultimately, this brings unquantifiable happiness now and in the hereafter.

‘Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honoured his name. ‘On the day when I act,’ says the LORD Almighty, ‘they will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.’ Malachi 3:16-18

Gracious God in heaven, we are thankful for blessing us with many lovely brothers and sisters in Christ. Please help us to truly support one another as we seek to serve You to the best of our abilities.
